NAMED

U.S. Highway Postcards

This page contains images of my collection of postcards from along all named U.S. Highways.  These could be the former named "Auto Trails" or other named highways.

At the beginning of my thoughts on attempting to complete such a collection, I decided that I wanted to show postcards of a certain type, orientation and makeup.

The postcards MUST be of the standard size, approximately 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" in size.

The postcards MUST also be in a horizontal orientation, not vertical.

The description of the highway MUST be shown on the front of the postcard.

Only ONE highway name must be identified on the front of the postcard.

The postcard can be a black & white "Real Photo" (RP) or a black & white "litho" postcard, a "Linen" postcard and/or a "Chrome" postcard.

Broadmoor-Cheyenne Highway

The Broadmoor-Cheyenne Highway Climbing Cheyenne Mountain Six miles of switchbacks that climb over 3000 feet, Colorado Springs, Colorado,

The Broadmoor-Cheyenne Highway makes a sensational climb up the north eastern slope of beautiful old Cheyenne Mountain.  terminating at the "Horns"  on the summit at an altitude of 9,500 feet.  It is a most remarkable road building achievement in the state, thrilling in the extreme, yet safe,  the sides protected with stout fences, the road broad and smooth and the curves wide.

No section of the country is so noted in historic interest, which makes it interesting for sight-seers, and these were the frequent and much loved hunting grounds of the famous Mohawk Indians.  Geographically, the greater part of the trail was a part of New York State while politically it was a part of Massachusetts.  Long before the coming of the white man to America, How many years nobody knows, it was this barrier that separated two powerful divisions of the Indians inhabiting the country.  Printed by Tichnor Quality Views, Card #101421A
