Beginning in 1989 a Validation Decal was issued in place of a metal license plate. This decal is made of vinyl, and is 4" x 2" in size. Each decal bears a serial number along the right edge. The instructions on the reverse side of the decal instruct the owner to apply the decal to the right (passenger side) door, so that the decal is clearly visible for inspection.
