MOPEDS

You must be at least 15 years of age to operate a MOPED on the roadway. MOPEDS are described as a two or three-wheeled vehicle with a motor which has no more than 50cc piston displacement producing two brake horsepower or less. The moped must have a power drive system that does not require shifting gears and cannot have a top speed exceeding 30 mph on level surfaces.
MOPEDS must be registered with the State, but they are not titled. They are registered for a 1 year period, and expire on April 30 of the year on the decal. The registration decal is attached to the back of the MOPED, and cannot be transferred to another MOPED.
It is believed that they were first required in the State of Michigan in the early 1970’s.
The back of the decal, prior to being attached to the MOPED has mounting instructions for the decal. You can read what they basically say from the image shown below.
The decals are 1 1/2" x 6" in size
They expire April 30th of the year on the decal
