Michigan allowed the use of "Civic Event" license plates beginning in 1970.
These license plates were "flat" and "screened" from 1970 to 1978, and were probably produced, with the State of Michigan's permission, by the Automobile Manufacturers themselves, and used on the vehicles that were loaned to the "Civic Event" by the Automobile Manufacturers.
Michigan issued its first "Officially" produced, embossed, "Civic Event" license plate in 1979.
Michigan's issued its last special "Civic Event" license plate on April 1, 1993, although the license plates were still validated until at least 1996, and possibly later.
As "Civic Event" plates had been issued to vehicles owned by manufacturers which were used in connection with public civic events, the Manufacturer plate is now used in its place.
