THE INFAMOUS 2001 BIRTHDAY STICKERS |
MICHIGAN PASSENGER LICENSE PLATES
BY MONTH OF EXPIRATION

For one year, and only one year (2001), actually part of one year, the Michigan Secretary of State (SOS) issued validation stickers with the owners BIRTH DATE as the expiration date, rather than just a month and year, as had been the practice in the past.
Evidently there was so much of an uproar over this that the practice was discontinued after the 2001 registration year.
Below are shown the license plates that I have come across wit this phenomenon.
All Plates Are Standard Size - 12" x 6"
These plates were constructed out of STEEL or ALUMINUM.
The STEEL plates were issued at Secretary of State Branch Offices, while the ALUMINUM license plates were mailed from the main Secretary of States Office in the State Capitol complex area, if a person ordered a license plate via mail.
Some of the ALUMINUM license plates could also be distinguished by "slotted" bolt holes, while the STEEL plates all had "round" bolt holes.
